WASHINGTON – Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is “doing well” and “eager” to leave the hospital and return to work, his longtime political adviser Josh Holmes told NBC News on Friday.
Holmes said he has been with the Kentucky Republican “for the past two days”, and said the senator has been moving around and pestering staffers with questions.
McConnell, 81, was hospitalized Wednesday and treated for a fall at a private dinner at the Waldorf Astoria in Washington, his office said earlier this week.
McConnell’s Senate office did not provide any official information on his status on Friday. His spokesman, David Pope, said in a statement Thursday that McConnell “is expected to remain in the hospital for observation and treatment for a few days.”
