More than a dozen injured in industrial blast outside Cleveland

An industrial plant explosion outside Cleveland injured more than a dozen people Monday, at least one seriously, Cleveland’s NBC affiliate WKYC reported.

The late morning blaze at metal alloy manufacturer I. Schumann & Co. in Oakwood Village southeast of Cleveland was described by a captain of the Oakwood Fire Department as a “big blaze.”

At least one person was taken by helicopter to a hospital, the official said. The captain said the latter fire was under control Monday afternoon, but crews were still working on hot spots.

As seen in social media videos reviewed by NBC News and associated footage from the scene, the explosion sent debris across the street, created a crater in a building, and created smoke that could be seen for miles.

Oakwood fire officials said all employees at the plant have been accounted for. I Schumann & Company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

WKYC noted that the plant was the site of an explosion in 2006.
