Wisconsin man dies during Grand Canyon hike, authorities say

The National Park Service said Tuesday that a 56-year-old hiker from Wisconsin was found dead on the Grand Canyon Trail last week.

The service said in a statement that the hiker, whose name was not released, was the subject of a report of an unresponsive person on the Bright Angel Trail below Havasupai Gardens around 3 p.m. Friday.

First responders pronounced him dead at the scene. Seva said he was from Pewaukee, Wisconsin and was planning a day hike to the Colorado River, made the Arizona landmark and returned.

Cause of death was not available.

“The incident is being investigated by the NPS in coordination with the Coconino County Medical Examiner,” the service said.

According to National Weather Service records, high temperatures at the Grand Canyon haven’t exceeded the upper 40s since the weekend.
